Purpose: to involve the child in creative experiences and to further develop their fine motor control and coordination
Level of Parent Involvement: Low, once modelled the child may work independently
Prerequisites
- None
Materials
- An empty toilet roll
- Sticky tape or masking tape
- A small ball of wool
- Scissors
- Glue (optional)
Preparation
- None
Steps
- Invite the child letting them know that you will be showing them how to make wool bangles
- Bring the materials to the child’s table, naming each with the child
- Let the child know that the toilet roll needs to be cut into 3 equal pieces, depending on the child cutting skills, they may cut the toilet roll
- Take one of the cut toilet roll pieces and cut a small piece out (about one centimetre) so that the toilet roll can easily slip on and off the child’s wrist
- Take the ball of wool and unroll some of the wool
- Using the sticky tape, affix the wool to the inside edge of toilet roll
- Show the child how to wrap the wool around the toilet roll from the beginning to the end, keeping the loops close together
- When the entire roll has been wrapped, cut the wool
- Affix the wool to the roll with the glue
- Show the child where the bangle can dry
- Invite the child to take a piece of toilet roll, cut one centimetre from the roll, then use the wool to wrap around to make their own bangle
- Leave the child to work independently
