* 10 cards with an adjective written on each one (each will make sense with at least one of the nouns) See PDF
* A small box to keep the cards
*Grammar symbols (use the grammar symbols made for the adjective game)
Preparation
- Place the nouns in one pile and secure with a paper clip, place the adjectives in another pile and secure with a paper clip
- Place the cards in a box
Steps
- Invite the child to the activity, show them the box with the cards, the child may bring the box to their table, you bring the grammar symbols
- Take out the two sets of cards, asking the child which colour card they would like to lay on the table
- Once the child has chosen the pile of cards, they may lay them out in a vertical line, reading each one aloud as they place them on the table (assist the child with reading the cards if necessary)
- Invite the child to lay out the other set and read each card aloud as they lay them out
- Now read across both sets, pausing at each combination to check if the child is happy with the description
- If the child doesn’t like the adjective that is in front of the noun they may place the card to the side
- Repeat until the child has read through the list, setting cards aside as necessary
- Once finished the child may use the cards they have set aside to place next to a different noun, or swap any of the other adjectives around to suit
- When the child is happy with the list, prompt the child to place the corresponding symbols for nouns and adjectives above the columns (large black triangle for the nouns, medium dark blue triangle for the adjectives)
- Once the child has finished they may place the cards back into their piles and match again
Variations
- The child may choose their favourite noun and place as many adjectives which suit the noun to the left of the noun (vertical)
- The child may choose their favourite noun and place as many adjectives to the left of the noun (horizontal)
