Level of Parent Involvement: Low, the parent must initially set up the exercise by laying out the string with masking tape, once the obstacle course has been prepared the child may play independently

Materials
- String
- Masking tape
Preparation
- Create an obstacle course by using the string and the masking tape, sticking the string to the floor in different directions
Steps
- Invite the child, letting them know you have set up an obstacle course for them
- The child may take off their shoes and socks, show the child where to place them out of the way
- Let the child know that they can use their bodies in different ways to move through the obstacle course, for example crawling, side stepping, shuffling etc
- Show the child the starting point of the obstacle course
- Demonstrate how to move through the obstacle course from the start of string to the end without any part of your body touching the string
- Let the child know that if their body touches the string they must go back to the beginning and start again
- Invite the child to have a turn
Variations
- You may place objects within the obstacle course for the child to navigate around
- This exercise may be set up outdoors
