Materials
- A child’s comb/brush
- An adult’s comb/brush
- A basket or drawer to store the combs/brushes in
- A mirror
Steps
- Place yourself in front of the mirror and explain to your child that you are going to comb/brush your hair.
- Pick up the adult sized comb/brush.
- Drawing your child’s attention to the mirror, show her how to comb/brush the hair on one side of your head and then on the other side. Start each stroke at the top of your head and comb/brush down the length of your hair – make your comb/brush strokes deliberate and slow.
- Place the comb/brush back into the basket or drawer.
- Show your child which comb/brush is hers and invite them to have a turn.
Variations
- Provide your child with another basket containing a variety of hair fastenings and let her practice using them in her hair (or in your hair or a sibling’s hair!)
- Provide your child with a limited amount of hair product in a container (e.g. hair gel, mousse or wax) and let her experiment with it in her hair (or in your hair or a sibling’s hair!)
